VAST Program Update
Virginia Department of Health contracts with VTN on a major health information technology (HIT) program for the Central Shenandoah Region

On Nov. 14, 2007, the State Office of Rural Health issued a contract to VTN for $1.1M. On behalf of VDH, VTN will provide oversight and management of a HIT grant funded by the National Office of Rural Health focused on the design, development, testing and evaluation of a model stroke network across the Central Shenandoah region. The primary objective of this initiative is to improve the availability and use of health information technology by Critical Access Hospitals (CAH), and between CAHs and their partners, to improve the health outcomes of rural populations—specifically as it relates to the prevention and treatment of stroke and related co-morbidities.
